The Strategy Creed

Explanation: This started as a silly riff on the Rifleman’s Creed in a conversation with a CEO I was speaking to recently. But now that I’ve written it out, I actually really like this. I think it could be useful in framing how strategy is supposed to work. Now, I don’t expect a CEO or an executive team to recite this… but then again, maybe it couldn’t hurt… 😅

Without further ado, The Strategy Creed:

This is our strategy, there are many like it, but this one is ours. Our strategy is our key to success. It is our cornerstone, our guiding star. We must master it as we must master our business.

Our strategy, without us, is ineffective. Without our strategy, we are directionless. We must execute our strategy with precision. We must be clear and aligned with our strategy, and our strategy must be aligned with our business goals.

I must see our strategy as a compass, guiding us through uncertainty and adversity. We will learn from our experiences and adapt our strategy as needed, always remaining focused on our objectives.

I pledge to communicate our strategy effectively to our team, ensuring clarity, unity, and dedication. We will foster a culture of collaboration and trust, empowering each team member to contribute to our strategic vision.

I will commit to understanding our industry, customers, and competitors, recognizing that our strategy must be agile and responsive to the changing landscape.

Our strategy is not a weapon against others, but a tool to overcome the challenges of misalignment and confusion. We will wield our strategy with wisdom, empathy, and foresight, always striving for excellence.

I will measure our progress and learn from our mistakes, never losing sight of the bigger picture. Our strategy will evolve as our business grows and adapts, ensuring our continued success.

Together, we will achieve our goals and make our strategy an integral part of our business. This is our promise, our creed, and our commitment to the success of our organization.
